“Color In/On Cleveland” — Call for Submissions
“Color In/On Cleveland” is a cutting-edge interactive artwork that uses the Magic Story Table to immerse people (Ingenuity Fest attendees) in a one-of-a-kind story adventure. By tilting the Magic Story Table in any direction, viewers can “fly” all over a projected map of the Cleveland Plus region. Spinning the tabletop “zooms in” to discover specific locales that feature secret finds, urban legends, roadside attractions, and all manner of creative prose and poetry. Upon navigating to a spot, the story behind it unfolds, and folks are surrounded in an atmosphere of imagery, sound, and words.
The Magic Story Table was already featured in a prior project in San Francisco, where it was used to showcase true stories written by students from a local high school, who were coached by volunteers from Dave Eggers’ 826 Valencia writing project. The resulting collection of site-specific tales were illustrated and set to audio of the students reading their work, and was shown at the 826 Valencia Pirate Store for a month.
Now, Clevelandians (and beyondians), we’d love it if you would share your stories, secrets, and creative genius with us. “Color In/On Cleveland” will be featured at this summer’s Ingenuity Fest, and we are collecting content to be featured in the Cleveland Plus version of the Magic Story Table.
Choose a category or categories below (short and simple examples are linked to each), and send us your submissionb. Your written pieces should be 300 words or less, and must include the specific place in the Cleveland Plus area – an address, a building, the intersection – that your submission is about.*
· SECRET FINDS
· URBAN LEGENDS
· ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS
· CREATIVE PROSE & POETRY
You also are invited to send images and sound/audio files along with your written submissions. Image files should be no larger than 2 MB each (we might use sequences of up to 8 pictures, so don’t be shy). The audio can be music, reading, or illustrative sound, and should be submitted in AVI or MP3 format. Send numerous emails, if needed. Include attribution info, if desired.
Please send your work to submissions@storytellingtable.com.
Submission drop-deadline is July 4th, 2009, but we’d really like to see things sooner. Items we get earlier will have a better chance of being included in the festival.
*We unfortunately will not be able to include everyone’s submission, so inclusion in “Color In/On Cleveland” project is not guaranteed. We reserve the right to edit. Submitting authors retain copyright to their submissions, but by submitting materials, grant a license to use submitted materials in the “Color In/On Cleveland” project and any related press or marketing materials. |
